"Dear Reader,

Throughout this book you will find poetry written by Tory Loux, a student at Barnard College of Columbia University who aspires to one day (briefly) live out of her car, and photography by Caroline Chidester, a student at School of the Art Institute of Chicago who somehow manages to make pictures of street trash look poetic. Tory and Caroline met as sophomores in high school and have since spent what could theoretically be classified as “too much” time together, either throwing chalk at Tory’s face for a good photograph or crying in the Panera Bread drive through. The idea of making a book together had come up a couple of years before the work on it actually began; it was only after they moved about 800 miles away from each other that the idea became a reality.

There is no one set theme to this book, but rather it combines their experiences with loss, grief, mental health, relationships of all kinds, and important life transitions into one collective body of work. Two concepts that kept returning to them, however, whether through their work or through their day-to-day process of realizing themselves in relation to the rest of the world, were time and distance. There are many fish in the sea but time and distance are, without a doubt, the hardest ones to fry. The proximity we have to the people that we love is something vital to our personal and creative lives, and though they might be far away, they hope that by sharing their respective art forms with you they can give you a little piece of them to have.

We hope you enjoy the creations of two emotional teenage girls who desperately miss each other and who are attempting to cope with how horrible and beautiful life can be. Thank you."
